Kodak continues to suffer big losses

Eastman Kodak reported a net loss of $168 million for the second quarter of 2010, or 62 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $189 million for the second quarter last year, or 71 cents per share, an improvement of 11 percent, the company said today, July 28.

Second quarter sales totaled $1.569 billion, an 11 percent decrease from $1.766 billion in the second quarter of 2009, the company said.

Kodak has about 700 employees at an inkjet printing facility in Kettering. The company designed and built its recently unveiled Prosper digital inkjet printer at the site.

The company said consumer inkjet printer and ink revenue grew 50 percent. Digital commercial printing revenue grew 9 percent in the second quarter.

Shares of Eastman Kodak (NYSE: EK) were down about 54 cents in early trading today at about $4.39 a share.
