The invention of a local company’s licensing partner recently won a global security contest.
Adaptive Imaging Technologies, of Israel, has won the Global Security Challenge 2009’s “most promising security start-up” award, according to Dayton-based STAN Solutions, which is refining a giga-pixel security camera the Israeli firm invented.
“It’s a win for Dayton, it’s a win for Ohio and it’s also a win for partnerships,” Tony Manuel, president of STAN Solutions, said Monday, Nov. 30.
STAN Solutions has the exclusive North American distribution rights for the camera. The Dayton company will add sensors to the camera and train people locally to use it.
Manuel believes the camera has military and commercial applications. In October, he told the Dayton Daily News the company had spoken with Dayton police about ways to use the camera to pinpoint the source of gunfire, for example.
The Adaptive Imaging Technologies-STAN Solutions partnership was sparked by a September 2008 trade mission by local government leaders and entrepreneurs to Haifa, Israel. Dan Foley, a Montgomery County commissioner, said the contest award is a “tangible example” of economic development cooperation between county and city governments.
STAN Solutions, a wireless video and audio sensing technology company, has been located in the Entrepreneurs Center off Monument Avenue for five years.
Tech Town, Dayton’s technology business park, has raised its first building just across Monument from the Entrepreneurs Center. The Tech Town building’s anchor tenant — IDCAST, the University of Dayton’s Institute for the Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology — moved into the building in August and is working with STAN on the camera.
In October, Manuel said his company was looking for a new headquarters location. On Monday, Manuel had nothing to announce regarding another location, but he stressed: “Our future location will be in Dayton.”
“We’re actually looking for a place to consolidate the resources and then to actually grow the company,” Manuel said in October. “We feel we have marketed ourselves in an industry that is ready for expansion.”
The company has about 40 employees in Dayton, with a shared manufacturing facility in Washington Twp.
