Local food economy summit set

About 200 growers, buyers, food policy stakeholders, community leaders and community gardeners will seek ways to create a more profitable local food economy at the first annual Greater Dayton Local Food Summit.

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Fairborn High School, 900 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. It will be headlined by Will Allen, cofounder of Milwaukee’s Growing Power, an urban farming and community food systems nonprofit.

According to a news release, topics for the event will include:

• Keys to successful urban farming and food systems;

• Secrets of successful farm-to-school programs;

• Community gardening’s role in local food systems;

• Food and farm policy improvements at the national and local level;

• Growing jobs through food production.

Cost for the day-long program is $25, which includes lunch.
