Moraine bar expected to reopen soon

MORAINE — The Ohio Division of Liquor Control has rejected objections by the city of Moraine to an application for liquor permits by the new owner of the bar formerly known as Mustang Sally’s.

“Moraine City Council was unable to present sufficient evidence to show that the applicant is unfit to engage in the retail sale of alcoholic beverages or that the issuance of this permit would adversely impact the peace, sobriety and good order of the community,” Bruce Stevenson, superintendent of the state division, said in an April 12 letter obtained by the Dayton Daily News.

Barring an appeal, the bar is expected to reopen as Fatt Stangz “as soon as possible,” said lawyer Wayne Stephan on Tuesday. Stephan represents Charles Chandler, the owner of the new bar.

The bar at 3522 Kettering Blvd. closed in May 2011 after permits for the bar were canceled by the previous owner, Stephanie Beck, according to records.

On June 23, the city council objected to permits sought by the new owner, Chandler, to operate the bar. Earlier in the day, Chandler, 44, of Harrison Twp., was charged in Kettering Municipal Court with falsification and tampering with records filed with Moraine in conjunction with the permit application.

Police accused Chandler of falsely claiming to be part of a company formed by Beck to operate the bar, according to records.

On March 28, Judge Thomas Hanna found Chandler guilty of two counts of unauthorized use of property and suspended a 30-day jail sentence, and Chandler paid $410 in fines and costs, according to Kettering Municipal Court records.
