MORAINE — The DMAX Ltd. truck engine plant laid off several employees from its personnel department this month in a work force reduction, according to General Motors Corp., a partner in the joint venture that operates the factory.
“We did reduce the size of our on-site personnel department, to better align our staffing to meet the needs of our business,” GM spokeswoman Kim Carpenter wrote in an email response Friday to questions from the Dayton Daily News.
The reduction affected salaried staff, not hourly production workers, Carepenter wrote. She declined to be specific about the number of jobs cut.
Those losing their jobs are eligible for severance pay, Carpenter wrote.
DMAX is a joint venture of GM and Isuzu Motors. It makes Duramax diesel engines available in GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks, as well as in the GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express vans.
The DMAX plant’s work force in September stood at about 425 hourly and 90 salaried employees.
