MVRPC names new exec director

By Thomas Gnau

Brian Martin will be the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission’s next executive director, the commission said Wednesday.

Martin, chosen from 38 applicants in a nationwide search, will assume the job early next month, the commission said. He is currently a senior planner/project manager/associate with Burgess & Niple, Inc., a Columbus-based transportation, planning, engineering and architectural firm.

Martin will oversee regional planning on air and water quality, transportation, land use and more. MVRPC is responsible for transportation planning in Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties and parts of northern Warren County and has an operating budget of about $4.6 million.

Martin succeeds Donald Spang, a 36-year veteran with the commission who most recently was executive director.

A Kentucky native, Martin is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in production/operations management and a master’s in city and regional planning.
