WILMINGTON — The sale of Clinton Memorial Hospital to RegionalCare Hospital Partners of Brentwood, Tenn., was to become effective at 12:01 a.m. today.

RegionalCare, a for-profit, is paying Clinton County $82 million for the hospital, a sum that includes paying off the long-term debt of the financially beleaguered hospital. In addition, RegionalCare has made several commitments to the community:

• Capital investment of 4 percent of net patient revenue in the facility for the next 15 years;

• Paying $500,000 to the YMCA for facility and wellness program improvements; $500,000 for Clinton County economic development; and a commitment of up to $200,000 per year for the medical care of uninsured county jail prisoners.
