New housing development planned in Dayton

Staff Report

DAYTON — The city will acquire 25 vacant lots for a total of $30,000 to construct a housing development in the Roosevelt neighborhood, city officials said Wednesday.

The acquisition is being done through a pilot program with Montgomery County that allows Dayton to buy vacant, tax-delinquent properties within four months, rather than the prior 18 months, city officials said.

The Dayton City Commission has approved the purchase of the lots, at $1,200 each.

The plan is to build 40 single-family homes near the new Greater Dayton Recreation Center at 2021 W. Third St. Vacant homes on Kilmer and Clemmer streets and Woodward Avenue are among those being purchased for redevelopment by the city.

The city is to work with the St. Mary Development Corp. and Miller-Valentine Group on the development.
