NewPage announces downtime at mills

Staff Report

Miami Twp.-based papermaker NewPage Corp. said Monday it will take downtime on two paper machines at its Port Hawkesbury mill, located in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Downtime for its newsprint machine will begin on Sept. 10, and downtime for a machine that makes highly smooth and thin paper will begin Sept. 16, NewPage executives said in a news release.

The company will provide updates on the mills based on an ongoing review of the situation and economic conditions, executives said.

Unfavorable exchange rates between U.S. and Canadian dollars as well as high utility and shipping costs prompted the downtime, executives said.
