Passenger traffic up 10 perecent at Dayton Airport

Staff report

More passengers and cargo flew out of Dayton International Airport in February than did in the same month last year.

Passenger boardings registered 91,864 this year compared with 83,298 last year, an increase of 10 percent.

It’s possible the jump is because of increased business passenger travel, said airport spokeswoman Linda Hughes. “Dayton has been more economical to fly from than our regional airports,” she said.

Air cargo in tons jumped 89.3 percent from 713.99 tons to 1,351.72 tons.

Hughes said the big spike in cargo is from Federal Express shipments into Dayton.

“They’re certainly sending in more cargo, but what is leaving the area is about the same,” she said.

As far as passenger departures, it’s expected that March numbers should be pretty good too, she added.
