MONROE — The owner of Riley’s Furniture Gallery on Breaden Drive in Monroe is embarking on a new “adventure.”

Riley Griffiths is opening a furniture outlet store on Aug. 6 inside the new Cincinnati Premium Outlets near Ohio 63 in Monroe. The outlet center will include about 100 upscale stores and is celebrating its grand opening Aug. 6-9.

The 1,400-square-foot Riley’s Furniture Outlet will feature specialty items such as Howard Miller and Ty Pennington wall and floor clocks — that will be shipped to shoppers’ homes for free — and Stressless Recliners by Ekornes, he said.

“It’s going to be more of a specialty store and then we’ll use it as an outlet to clear certain odds and ends from the main showroom,” Griffiths said.

“But it’s a whole new adventure that we’re trying to come up with a concept to sell in these outlet malls and we’ve been talking to the Philly mall and talking to Chicago. If we can come up with a concept that works, we might take it to these other malls, “ he said.

“We’re sort of experimenting.”

Griffiths said another reason he decided to open the outlet store is to help boost the economy.

“The main thing we’re trying to do in this economy is create jobs for people, and I think it’s the best thing you can do.”

He said he plans to hire a minimum of seven part-time and full-time employees at his store.

In the meantime, Griffiths said he is currently remodeling the second floor of his 30,000-square-foot full-line furniture store at 150 Breaden Drive.

“We torn out all the walls and we’re putting in new lighting, new flooring and we’re really going to make it look really nice,” he said.

“Then we’re doing the outside of the building this summer. It’s going to need a whole new face lift like new signage, new logos and new texturing.”

Griffiths said he hopes to complete the exterior work on his building by this fall.

He said he has been in the Middletown/Monroe area for 40 years and in Monroe facility the last 36 years.
