COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Development is requesting proposals from companies with ideas for alternative-energy projects that could qualify for federal economic stimulus funding.

The program, called “DeployingRenewable Energy: Transforming Waste to Value,” invites proposals from applicants that will create jobs through projects that can generate electricity or heat from municipal solid waste, farm waste, or other biomass or waste materials.

Awards will be competitively selected and could range between $500,000 and $1 million, state officials said. Eligible projects must be located within Ohio, be completed within a year and require a matching investment of at least 25 percent of the project’s total cost.

It is the most recent round of funding available through the state’s energy program, which channels the federal stimulus funding.

A bidders’ conference is scheduled Monday, July 19, in Columbus from 10 a.m. to noon. To begin the application process, companies or individuals must submit a one-page project summary no later than 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, to http://recovery.ohio.gov/opportunities/state.
