CAT LOVERS: This former WSU cartoonist will make you smile

While attending Wright State University in 2003, Nate Fakes scored a stint as the staff cartoonist at The Guardian, WSU's school newspaper. And that was a springboard to a career in cartooning that has spanned Mad Magazine, 21st Century Fox, his own syndicated cartoon called "Break of Day," and now, a cat book.

Fakes — who now lives in Bellbrook with his wife, daughter, and yes, a cat named “Tiger” — has released “Laser Pointers, Hairballs, and Other Cat Stuff,” which Fakes describes as “a small collection of cat cartoons, many from my series, Break of Day … . It displays puns, cats taking on human roles, the absurdity of living as a cat, and features a glimpse of cat lives — all nine of them.”

A release party and book-signing will be held at Ollie's Place at 518 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Twp. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 24. The books will be sold that night for $9.99.

“I think anyone of any age who has a cat will appreciate this book,” Fakes told this news outlet. “I’m anxious to create more cartoon collections. I’m hoping to publish two more books of cartoons this year, a dog-themed book and also a music-themed book.”
