Children Services: ‘Truly disturbed’ by shooting of 2 children

Montgomery County Children Services released a statement about the open case involving a woman accused of critically injuring two of her children Thursday.

Claudena Helton is in Montgomery County Jail on two counts felonious assault. She is accused of shooting 8-year-old Khmorra Helton and 6-year-old Kaiden Helton Thursday inside their Lori Sue Avenue home in Dayton.

The Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services confirmed Thursday they have an open case with the Heltons.

“Montgomery County’s Children Services Division is truly disturbed by the unimaginable tragedy that occurred yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with this entire family, and very clearly the young children who were the victims of this violent act,” reads a statement from Kevin Lavoie, spokesman for children services.

Lavoie said anyone that believes they know a child in need or that shows signs of abuse, should call 937-224-KIDS (5437).

“As with information about any ongoing investigations or cases, your calls are confidential and may not be discussed publicly,” Lavoie said.
