BEAVERCREEK — Local merchants and community leaders have joined forces to try to keep shoppers local and give business a boost in tough times.
The Beavercreek Chamber Commerce retail merchants group launched the “Buy Beavercreek” campaign at the beginning of the year, and it has grown to a marketing effort with more than 250 members.
“It has really taken off,” said Amy Eakle-Davidson, chairwoman of the chamber’s merchants group.
Businesses participating in the campaign pay $25 for a kit that includes a loyalty card, bumper sticker and sign for their shop window, Eakle-Davidson said. Loyalty cards, which are also being sold to customers for $5, offer perks at member locations.
“It’s something that we could do to give back to those people deciding to patronize in Beavercreek,” she said.
Brenda Eakins, of World Digital Imaging, said the local shopping program is one facet of a marketing campaign and other efforts helping her business weather the economic storm.
And businesses will get additional chances at three of the community’s bigger customers now that the city, township and school district are consulting the “Buy Beavercreek” vendor list when looking to make purchases.
“We absolutely hope a lot of people will get an opportunity to at least place a bid or quote some contracts,” said Eakins.
Mayor Julie Vann said the city has long encouraged local businesses to submit bids for government work and hopes more will do so. The buy local campaign, she said, proves residents are looking out for their neighbors.
“I think people just care about Beavercreek and recognize these are hard times,” Vann said.
