BROOKVILLE — During a bad patch in her life, a stray cat showed up, and Lynn Adams said it changed her life.

That was 13 years ago, and Adams has helped save and place stray and feral cats in homes ever since. But that’s only part of what she does.

“I’m passionate about two things in life,” Adams said. “Art and cats.”

She was a painter (mostly watercolors) before she became a photographer and accomplished in each before she became interested in cats.

She also held other jobs along a journey that led her to Brookville, where she is a freelance photographer and a painter, although she concentrates on photography. She has studied at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlingburg, Tenn.

She worked for Disney World and one of her works is on display with Disney’s corporate collection.

Originally from Pennsylvania, her family moved to Florida. But after a marriage separation, Adams longed again for the change of seasons. She ended up in Ohio.

She helped a friend with a restaurant and worked other jobs while painting watercolors and learning about photography.

She has won several awards with her photography, including recent first- and second-place awards in the annual Woodland Cemetery photo contest. Adams said she also photographs weddings, “and things like that.”

“I’ve always considered my artistic talent as a gift that I am thankful for and I try to use it to help others,” Adams said.

As for her interest in cats, Adams is quick to point out she’s not a cat rescue organization, but does spend a lot of time trying to match stray cats with homes.

Sale of her photos — on display now at Old Hickory BBQ on Woodman Drive — help the cause.

Adams can be reached at Box 185, Brookville, Ohio, 45309; or by calling (937) 750-2095.
