CENTERVILLE — Boosalis Baking & Cafe, 9486 Springboro Pike, Miamisburg, is the newest addition to the Centerville farmers market scene.
Matt Boosalis, who owns the bakery/cafe showed up today, Thursday, June 25, for the first time at the market, with homemade cranberry bread, scones made with fresh cream and cranberries and orange essence, and cookies so fresh, that with the heat, they tasted like cookies fresh out of the oven. The scones normally sell for $1.65 apiece, but since he had just gotten last minute approval to come to the market, he ended up without enough change and was selling them for $1.50. Cookies made from scratch were selling for $.75 apiece. He had chocolate chip, sugar cookies, and peanut butter cookies, but said he plans to bring a molasses/ginger cookie and a three-way ginger scone that has grated ginger, candied ginger and scraped ginger, next Thursday. A black cherry with white chocolate scone is also promised.
The bakery/cafe in Miamisburg is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s closed Sundays. It’s been open about a year and sells baked goods and sandwiches (turkey with basil/mayonnaise, etc.) on fresh baked bread. Salad dressings and soup are all made from scratch.
A woman passing by the stand told another woman sampling a big piece of the cranberry bread, that she lives north of town but comes south just to eat lunch at their cafe.
The Centerville farm market, held every Thursday, rain or shine, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Maple Avenue behind Cross Point Vineyard Church, was busy despite the 91 degree heat today, with cars coming and going.
Mike and Sue Link, long-time Centerville-Washington Twp. residents — he’s retired from GM and she’s retired from the Centerville Police Department, were among many looking for local produce.
The freshly picked pie cherries and raspberries at the Flying Mouse Farm booth were selling for $6 a quart and hard to pass up.
