CENTERVILLE — The Centerville-Washington Park District celebrated its 50th anniversary with an open house Nov. 1.

At the Dec. 14 Commission Meeting, State Representative Terry Blair from the 38th District presented the Board of Park Commissioners with an official commendation from the state of Ohio House of Representatives recognizing this “auspicious occasion.”

The commendation reads: “The Centerville-Washington Park District has enhanced the quality of life within the surrounding area.”

With nearly 1,000 acres of park land in Centerville and Washington Twp., the district offers programs and natural area preservation.

The seven community parks host activities such as athletics, while the seven nature parks preserve historical and natural treasures.

Thirty-four neighborhood parks provide recreation and play opportunities within walking distance of most homes.

Centerville receives financial reporting award

The city of Centerville recently received the Making Your Tax Dollars Count award from the state auditor’s office for its fiscal year 2008 audit.

According to the auditor’s office, fewer than five percent of all Ohio government agencies are eligible for the award, which Centerville has achieved four times.

Criteria for the award include completing and submitting a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report; no finding of issues present in the audit report; and no other financial concerns involving the entity.

Centerville finance director Steve Hinshaw and assistant finance director Elizabeth Ward accepted the award from Lisa Hayes, of the state auditor’s office.
