CLAYTON (Jan. 7): After exiting Interstate 70 and driving erratically north on South Main Street without using turn signals, a police officer initiated a traffic stop.

The officer discovered the driver’s car plates had expired a day earlier. The driver told the officer he renewed the plates online, but did not have the paperwork with him.

The officer noticed the driver had an alcoholic odor about him, although he said he had left a restaurant about an hour earlier. When asked what time it was, the driver said it was 1 a.m. even though it was actually 3 a.m.. He asked the officer for a “freebie” since he was only two blocks from home.

Unfortunately, the driver registered a 0.165 on a Breathalyzer test, twice the 0.08 legal blood-alcohol limit in Ohio.

The driver was issued OVI citations and one for failure to use a turn signal. He was released to his fiancé. MARC KATZ
