More than $4,000 was raised Oct. 12 at the Execs in the City charity event for Crayons to Classrooms at Cox Arboretum’s Fifth Third conference center.
“We were thrilled with the outpouring of support,” said Steve Rubenstein, executive director of Crayons to Classrooms.
“From the generous attendees to the wonderful ladies at WE Mean Business Dayton, we were overwhelmed by the support these people offered to this important cause,” said Rubenstein.
Crayons to Classrooms provides basic school supplies at no cost to teachers of children in need in the Dayton area. More than 70 people were in attendance, including: Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell; Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl; Dayton School Board President Jeffery Mims; Superintendent of Dayton Public Schools Lori Ward; and Superintendent of West Carrolton Public Schools Rusty Clifford.
Also in attendance were representatives from sponsoring companies including McGohan & Brabender, Standard Register, MeadWestvaco, and Crown Solutions-Veolia, along with several representatives from the University of Dayton and Wright State University.
The Eddie Brookshire Quintet performed while hors d’oeuvres and wine were served. Two silent auctions, for jewelry and a week at a condo in Siesta Key, Fla., raised additional funds.
