Amy Holbrook, eighth- grade Social Studies teacher at Mad River Middle School, is the 2010 Mad River Local Schools Teacher of the Year.
Holbrook was nominated by her peers at MRMS and chosen by a district committee of teachers and administrators. Holbrook will be the district applicant for the Ohio Teacher of the Year Award.
Congratulations go out as well to each of our Secondary Building Teacher of the Year Candidates including Andrea Rastatter, the Spinning Hills Teacher of the Year, and Elizabeth Wolfe-Eberly, the Stebbins Teacher of the Year.
Early Childhood Center: Turtles and Lizards are learning letters and sounds by doing the Zoophonics chants, playing alphabet games, and doing activities.
Beverly Gardens: Third-graders at Beverly Gardens recently began a Science unit on rocks and minerals. Using sand, pebbles, and glue, students created their own rock models.
Brantwood: On Sept.17, Brantwood held a “Back to School Family Reading Night” with more than 100 students and parents. After the opening activity and door prizes, the parents attended three informational sessions. Next up: October Family Fazoli’s Fundraiser Dinner/Family Math Night!
Saville: In Mrs. Dennis’ first-grade class the students are learning about the Constitution and why it is important to the United States. After learning about the Constitution, the students wrote a letter to President Obama and asked him different questions about the White House and his job.
Stevenson: Third grade students visited Carillon Park, planned so students could study what our local community was like during the early 19th century. Students saw the operation of an 1896 classroom, as they participated in classroom activities and learning.
Fourth-grade students visited Sun Watch: Indian Village/Archaeological Park after learning about the native inhabitants of Ohio.
Spinning Hills: On Sept. 18 the Mohican tribe traveled to Urbana University to visit the Benjamin Franklin traveling exhibit.
Mad River Middle: The math department at Mad River Middle School has published its first-quarter newsletter. The highlights include updates on curriculum, OAT & SCA info and Questions of the Week info. The newsletter is now available for reading at http://www.madriverschools.org/Newsletters.aspx
Stebbins: Four students have had their work selected for the 2009 STRS-OAEA High school Art Exhibition. Congratulations go out to Ashley Boles, Brandon McClain, Erica Strong, and Corey Woods.
The exhibit showcases 110 works of art by students in grades nine through12 statewide. Their work will be on display through Oct. 10 at the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio in Columbus.
On Sept. 17, the Business Professionals of America Club held their annual election of officers. The 2009-10 officers are:
