Early Child- hood Cen-ter: The Little Lizards have been learning how different families celebrate holidays, learning about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
The third-graders at Beverly Gardens have been studying animals, learning about the different types of animals and their characteristics. Students chose to make a diorama, mobile, or poster illustrating their animal, their animal’s habitat, and other interesting facts.
The fourth-graders just finished the water cycle and weather units in science. The “Modeling a Flood” and “Heating Land and Water” activities were quite interesting.
Brantwood: The kindergarteners in rooms one and two went to Stebbins to make a Christmas surprise for their family. It was a good experience for the children to visit the high school and create a clay snowman sculpture. They also got to create their handprint on a clay tile.
Saville: The third-grade students, under the direction of Tami Rogers, performed their version of “The Christmas Carol” on Dec. 3. Special thanks to all of the third-grade teachers and many parents that helped with costumes and set design.
Stevenson: Stevenson students and staff arrived comfy and cozy on Nov. 24, in their pajamas. Tuesday was pajama day for the school as students prepared for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday by relaxing in their pajamas during the day.
Stevenson third-graders performed a special holiday music program after learning how people around the world celebrate the winter holidays.
Stevenson students who reached their November Behavior Goal were treated to a holiday jazz concert performed by the Stebbins jazz band under the direction of Kenny Carpenter.
Spinning Hills: Last week, the social studies class went to visit the kindergarten team at Beverly Gardens, read stories and learned about cave paintings before helping their reading buddies paint some cave paintings.
The Spinning Hills Citizen of the Month in November for fifth grade is Alexis Miller and sixth grade is Shamar Whithers.
Mad River Middle: Mad River Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade computer technology teacher Adam Cicora was awarded the 2009 McDonald’s Making Activities Count Grant. His winning grant of $488 will provide his eighth-grade students the chance to build a working desktop computer from basic components including: motherboard, CPU, heat sink, ram, graphics card, case, power supply, and hard drive.
Megan McCuiston, eighth grade Language Arts teacher for team Chippewa also was awarded the 2009 McDonald’s Making Activities Count Grant. She is planning to purchase a class set of “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins to read with her students and create lessons to go with the book.
