With the holidays quickly app-roaching, I want to let you know that there are many families in the Fairborn community in need. The Fairborn Christmas Project truly needs your help.
The Fairborn Community Center, located at 1076 Kauffman Ave., truly supports the Fairborn community through monetary and other donations.
With the tough economy, many of our friends and neighbors will need help this holiday season. You can sponsor a family, families, or an individual for the holidays.
Contact the Fairborn Community Center to fill out a sponsorship form. A staff member from the center will contact you with information regarding your “adopted” family.
The center can also use monetary donations, which will be used for food vouchers and to purchase toys and other items.
At this time of year many of our students do not have the appropriate clothing for the winter weather.
The Fairborn City School District “Hoodies and Hats for Hawks” campaign will begin early next week. Collection bins will be available in the main lobby of every building in the school district.
Donations of coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweatshirts and coats will be taken for two weeks. At the conclusion of the drive, the donations are given to district students in need.
Did you know? Edutopia suggests that school districts need to “Go where our parents are” with websites and social media.
The same parents who are browsing our website are very likely to visit our Facebook page too.
Fairborn is utilizing Facebook and Twitter as we work toward a back-and-forth dialogue among school, home and the community.
School websites are the most efficient way to give parents a view of our classrooms and school community.
Calendars, newsletters and school announcements are available in an instant for parents. Progress Book helps promote student achievement with week-by-week listings of student course assignments and due dates and other important classroom and school information.
I want to thank Dr. Jerry Neely for his support of the Fairborn Primary first-grade classes and their recent trip to the Fairborn library. Dr. Neely funded the field trip for our youngest Skyhawks to learn about the library in our community. Thank you to this wonderful community partner!
I also want to congratulate Fairborn Primary School third-grade teachers Karen O’Bleness and Vicky Weese, who both recently received National Board Certification. I am very proud of these teachers and their hard work.
Fairborn Intermediate School donated $956.54 to the Lymphoma Society for Cancer Research. Mrs. Tanya Hilty’s class won the Pasta Party sponsored by the Olive Garden. Our students and teachers do a wonderful job of working on worthwhile projects to benefit the community and other special causes.
I also want to congratulate the FIS STARRS for the month. Congratulations to these fourth-grade STARRS: Auburn Rose, Ryan Howard, Abigail Florence, Taye Lowe, Victor Gonzales, Abigail Adkins, Megan Liddy, Christopher Lawrence-White, Steven Witten, Marianna Holbert, Tyler Rost, Devin DeWitt, Madison Neff, Juliana Boyd, Taylor Hensley, Jayme Collins, Jaidyn Brauer, Jessica Black, Maria Davila, Isabella Carone, Joe Nickel, Matt Hoffman, Paige Stevenson, Bruce Pico, Audrey Renner, Tiger Denton, Quincie Kehoe, Ariel Gausel, Taylor Schuler and Ashley Whitley. Congratulations to these Fairborn Intermediate School STARR students and their families.
I want to thank Baker Middle School PE teacher Jamie Roseberry for organizing the “Chain for a Cure” project at Baker Middle School. For a 25-cent donation, students can place their names on a pink strip that will be linked with other strips. The halls of Baker are decorated with these strips as part of cancer awareness.
Baker holds many activities to support cancer research throughout the school year. I am very proud of their efforts.
Congratulations to Fairborn High School senior Jake Wilson and the FHS Varsity Club for the winning video as part of the Sinclair Community College Spirit Video Contest.
I also want to congratulate Fairborn High School seniors Jaymee Veney and Brittany Duncan, who both signed letters of intent to play sports at Division I schools.
Brittany will play softball at Valparaiso, and Jaymee will play basketball at St. Francis College of New York.
Thank you to Athletic Director Jim Smerz and the FHS coaching staff for helping these student athletes fulfill their dreams.
