Plenty of camps, free activities at Fairborn parks

The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Department will offer summer camps, according to Superintendent Pete Bales:

Youth tennis camp

Description: Fairborn and USPTA tennis pro Theo Rust will be hosting two tennis summer camps. Limited to 24 juniors per week, campers need tennis shoes/attire, tennis racket, bottled water and lunch. A small snack will be included.

Ages: 7 to 18

Dates: July 27 to 31

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission: $185 per person

Where: Community Park Tennis Courts, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road

Multisports camps

Description: Campers develop a wider range of sporting skills and teamwork and interpersonal skills. Campers will receive technical instruction and participate in games and drills.

All campers will receive a free T-shirt, sports bag and water bottle, plus an evaluation and certificate of merit.

Camp 1: Basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball

Age groups: Ages 5-8, ages 9-12, ages 13-16

All camp dates: July 20 to 24

All camp times: 
9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Admission: $125 per person

Location: Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road

Preteen and teen boys wellness camp

Description: Noncompetitive program is filled with mutual respect and personal responsibility. A licensed dietitian and counselor will provide information and activities to ensure campers feel confident and capable.

All campers will receive a free T-shirt, fitness/nutrition journal and water bottle, plus an evaluation and certificate of merit.

Ages: 8-16

Dates: July 20 to 24

Time: 9 a.m. to noon.

Admission: $125 per person

Location: Community Park, Shelter 1, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.

Shawnee Park activities

Here are a few concerts and activities at Shawnee Park, according to the Xenia Parks and Recreation Web site and Director Michelle Fisher.

6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12: Impossibles, featuring big band, polkas, country and other music

6:30 to 8 p.m. July 19: David Payne, featuring a variety of acoustical numbers .

6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2:Beavercreek Strummers, featuring big band, marches and ragtime.

5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9:Second annual All Church Community Picnic featuring inflatables, food and games and performance by Mary Rice Hopkins, interactive experience of fun and singing.

6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16: Greene County Adult Band & Chorus featuring overtures, marches and medleys.

6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30: Kettering Civic Band featuring classical, marches and overtures.
