HUBER HEIGHTS — Effective Aug. 1, the city of Huber Heights will take possession of Thomas Cloud Park from Montgomery County.
According to Emily Haney, Community Services Manager for Huber Heights, Montgomery County approached Huber Heights and offered the park to the city.
“It’s quite a regional gem, and it would be a shame for the park to be shuttered,” Haney said. “We plan to keep the park open as a park.”
For now, Huber Heights does not plan any changes to the park or its programs.
Montgomery County cut out the summer camps this year, and Huber Heights does not plan to reinstate the camps for now.
“We’re still trying to figure it out,” Haney said. “As staff figures out the lay of the land and what we need to do, we’ll keep everyone informed.”
The city intends to honor all contracts and payments/deposits for contracts and shelter reservations that Montgomery County has entered into for the remainder of 2009. Due to the cost of upkeep of the park by the city, fee schedules may change for 2010.
Thomas Cloud Park has six park shelters, playground equipment, walking and exercise trails, 14 tennis courts, four basketball courts, sand volleyball and several soccer fields and baseball diamonds.
