There is a whole day of Holiday at Home fun before the parade starts down Far Hills Avenue at 9:55 a.m. Labor Day, Sept. 6.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, the Lincoln Park Commons from the Kettering Government Center on Shroyer Road to Fraze Pavilion will be filled with more than 140 arts and crafts vendors.

“We’re fortunate to have many of our regular vendors back for another year plus a dozen or more new ones,” said Jordon Wyant, and his wife, Amy, volunteers who oversee the booths with artists selling everything from hand made jewelry, pastel portraits and tie dye articles to chain-saw carvings.

“People are fascinated by the artistic work of a glass blower,” Jordan Wyant said. “And they watch and laugh with the man who makes caricatures of their friends and themselves.”

Cory Weaver of Life in Letters at The Greene will be participating in the event for the first time. Kathy Snyder will be selling special handmade items to benefit breast cancer awareness.

“There is something of interest to everyone, and our artists are all top drawer,” Jordan Wyant said.

Volunteers Noreen Long and her husband, Jerry, have assembled more than 20 vendors selling food from hot dogs and pork chop sandwiches to fudge and fennel cakes and sweet potato fries.

“These people are so loyal to Holiday at Home, they come back each year,” Noreen Long said. “Many organizations like the Optimists, Good Shepherd Church, the Boy Scouts and Upsilon Theta run some of the booths as part of their fundraising.”

Long said she and her family have observed the people who love Holiday at Home and the vendors who come each year.

“We enjoy walking and talking and eating and that’s why the food fits right in with walking and talking and eating,” she said. “It’s simple and easy to handle.”

Special attractions for children include face painting, crafts and an inflatable play area. Teenagers can enjoy playing “Guitar Hero.” Musical entertainment provides a background for the festivities.

The 52nd Holiday at Home Parade will have the theme “Say It With Music.”

An addition on Monday will be the Antique Auto Show. The show will be open until closing time at 5 p.m.
