KETTERING — Kettering will host the 34th annual Go 4th! celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday at Delco Park, 1700 Delco Drive.

New this year to the free event, which drew about 75,000 people last year, will be a 1-mile run/walk.

“Wellness, fitness and health are really important to us, and we didn’t have anything like it,” said Stacy Schweikhart, division manager with the Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. “We made it one mile because it could attract serious runners and casual runners and families.”

The competitive run begins at 8 a.m. and the casual run/walk starts at 8:15 a.m. Schweikhart said costumes are encouraged.

Preregistration is $10, or $12 on the day of the race. Each participant gets a goody bag and T-shirt.

To register for the run, go to www.ketteringoh.org, call (937) 296-2587 or visit the Kettering Recreation Complex or Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center.

Also new this year is the Meijer Mobile Tour, which will offer interactive games and activities as part of the Kids Zone.

The Kids Zone — which also offers arts and crafts, games and inflatables — will be open from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at shelters 1 and 3.

The Army Field Band: The Volunteers will perform, as will Kettering’s own The Trace Band.

“The Trace Band is a group of middle-schoolers from the Kettering community who go to St. Charles,” Schweikhart said. “People will be surprised and very pleased by how talented they are.”

The event will end with the fireworks show at 9:45 p.m. It will be set to patriotic music and will last 26 minutes. In the case of rain, the show could be delayed or rescheduled.

The park is open all day, but the parking lot will closed at noon to vehicles without an Ohio State Disability parking permit.

Alcohol, pets, sparklers or other fireworks are not permitted.
