KETTERING — What do these two actions have in common — failing to yield and failing to allow for assured clear distance?
They are both actions that motorists are typically cited for when driving through three of Kettering’s major intersections.
On March 25, Kettering Police Officer Michael Burke announced that the police will be monitoring the following intersections more closely.
• Woodman Drive and East Dorothy Lane
• East Dorothy Lane and Wilmington Pike
• East Stroop Road and Wilmington Pike
Burke said the police are targeting these intersections for the rest of the year because they are the places where many accidents have occurred. He also said that the intersection of Forrer Road and Smithville Road has had many accidents because motorists are failing to stop for the red traffic signal.
“Officers will be monitoring traffic closely and using laser and radar devices to stop speeding motorists,” Burke said in a press release. “It is the hope of the Kettering Police Department that drivers will exercise caution, obey the traffic laws and drive safely.”
In 2008, Kettering police investigated more than 1,000 traffic crashes with 134 of them resulting in an injury.
