MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — A Miami Twp. firefighter/paramedic who for more than nine years has taught CPR and first aid to township personnel has started his own company and now brings the training to homes and businesses.
“Who better to teach these types of life-saving skills, except those whose profession involves this knowledge every day?” said Firefighter Safe owner Nick Seitz.
Other places teach CPR and first aid classes, Seitz said, but clients have to go to them, which can be inconvenient to coordinate.
His licensed and American Safety and Health Institute certified instructors tailor classes to the needs of clients, Seitz said.
“Although basic skills are taught throughout, a class for a day-care center would have a different focus than a class for a construction company,” he said, also noting that training sessions can be set around the clients’ schedules.
Classes typically range from five to 30 people and can be for new and re-certification.
Jill Mosley, co-director of Kids R Kids in Springboro, where Seitz taught a communicable disease class March 31, said the convenience of Firefighter Safe services are invaluable to busy businesses.
“We used to have to go off site to get the training, which was really inconvenient,” Mosley said. “We are a Monday through Friday family business and didn’t want to cut into family time. Being able to do the training after work or during work hours is awesome.”
Mosley said Seitz is great to work with and the fact that he offers a one-stop-shop of classes made his business even more appealing to the company.
“He gets involved with the staff, makes it fun so you’re not just sitting in a class and bored,” she said. “He gets everyone involved, and the staff really enjoy themselves. They absolutely love when he comes here.”
