OAKWOOD — Robert Jacques, Oakwood’s city attorney since June 2010, has been hired as what is believed to be the city’s first law director.
“We have not had a law director in Oakwood as far back as I have been able to look, about 30 to 35 years,” City Manager Norbert Klopsch said. “Fundamentally, the position of law director is established by our city charter. It’s definitely something that you can tie back to our founding documents.”
Klopsch said Jacques’ new position will combine his former role with that of city prosecutor, and he also will be responsible for delinquent income tax collection.
Oakwood’s former prosecutor, Dennis Atkins, was appointed to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court judge in June.
Klopsch estimated that Jacques, 37, had been spending about 60 percent to 70 percent of his time working for Oakwood in his previous role.
“When we ran all the numbers, financially it is a good decision for us,” Klopsch said. “And, in terms of service, it is much better for us to have him here full time.”
Jacques, who had been with the Dayton law firm of Altick & Corwin, is an Oakwood native. He graduated from Oakwood High School and lives in the city with his wife and kids.
In his new position, he will be making $96,000. His first day was Wednesday, Aug. 10.
