CLEARCREEK TWP., Warren County — Township trustees agreed Wednesday, Aug. 26 to a give Firefighter Justin Biel one more chance despite a reckless operation conviction.
Biel, 28, of Waynesville otherwise faced termination after being convicted of reckless operation in August in Clinton County.
Biel was stopped while driving by state troopers at 3:30 a.m, May 31 on Ohio 73, just outside Wilmington, and charged with drunk driving after testing 0.123 on a blood-alcohol test, according to court records.
Reports on and video from the stop have been destroyed, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Court records show Biel pleaded guilty to reckless operation on Aug. 5 in Clinton County Municipal Court. Judge Chad Carey fined Biel $530 and ordered him to attend a three-day alcohol counseling session.
On Wednesday, the Clearcreek Twp. trustees met in executive session before voting to accept a “last chance agreement,” allowing Biel — who has been suspended for 60 days — to return to work, provided he avoids misconduct for a year.
The department fights fires in Springboro and the township.
