WEST CARROLLTON — Wilson Park Pool opens Memorial Day weekend and pre-season passes are now on sale at a discount rate for city and school district residents.

Passes are for sale at the West Carrollton Civic Center at 300 E. Central Ave.

“The pool is a great place for our residents to escape the heat during the summer months,” said City Manager Brad Townsend. “It’s also a place that attracts lots of visitors who may be visiting our city for the first time.”

Average annual pool attendance is about 33,800, with the highest in the past five years at 35,298 in 2010, due mostly to a hot and dry summer last year and closing of Splash Moraine, said Christian Mattingly, parks and recreation director.

He said Wilson Pool will be host this year to several special events, including Honor Roll Day on June 12, during which students who present their honor roll report card can get free ice cream. Also planned is Pops Day on June 19, Children’s Day, June 26, Luau Day, July 25, Parent Appreciation Day, Aug. 7, and the popular summer wrap-up, Doggie Dive, on Sept. 10.

“We had a great turnout for last year’s movie nights,” Mattingly said, noting that attendance rose from 100 to 200 in the two events.

Following the first movie night, Mattingly said the city received many requests for a second one.

“So, we plan to schedule two nights again this summer,” he said.

Purchasers of pre-season passes may also take advantage of early sign ups for three different morning swimming sessions and two evening ones set to begin June 13.

And park shelter reservations are now available to city residents. Non-residents may make reservations starting April 1.

Shelters at the pool are free during regular pool hours and on a first-come, first-serve basis.
