BEAVERCREEK — Kettering Health Network is shopping $100 million worth of revenue bonds that will finance the construction of a new hospital near the Mall at Fairfield Commons.
Both Montgomery and Greene county commissioners approved the effort Oct. 6. The counties have no fiscal liability, but must sign off on the request to issue debt because of the hospital groups nonprofit status, hospital officials said.
The money also will pay for improvements at Kettering Medical Center and Grandview Hospital in Montgomery County, officials said.
Kettering plans to break ground as soon as next month on a $120 million hospital facility on 22 acres after receiving approval of detailed site plans from Beavercreek City Council members in September.
The hospital will grow to 276,000 square feet when completed and offer a birthing center, surgery and other services. The hospital group has a 30-year plan for the facility that includes medical office buildings, as many as 90 beds, a helicopter pad and parking garage.
Some Xenia officials balked when they learned some services, including the trauma center, would relocate from Xenia to Beavercreek when the hospital was completed.
After signing off on the bond sale, county commissioners Marilyn Reid and Rick Perales said on Oct. 6 that they are confident Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia would remain viable in the long term.
“We’re confident the hospital will stay here and stay healthy,” Perales said.
