XENIA — A power surge during the winter break knocked out a hard drive that controls voice mail and some telephone numbers for Xenia Community District Schools.

Superintendent Deborah Piotrowski said if people need to contact personnel at the schools, they’ll have to leave a message with the person answering the phone. “We’re going to have to go back to the old way,” she said.

Working numbers where messages can be left: Central Office (937) 562-9000; Xenia High School (937) 562-9900; Central Middle School, (937) 562-9700; Spring Hill Elementary (937) 562-9500.

The numbers are also listed on the Xenia schools website and being shown on Xenia local television Channel 21.

The One Call automated phone system that contacts parents with information was not affected.

Piotrowski said a new $2,000 hard drive may be installed by Tuesday or Wednesday. After that, she said data will be built up again and people will be able to retrieve voice mail messages.

Piotrowski said she will try to get approval for early implementation of the new phone system that is part of the school building project.
