TROY - A Troy man convicted of assaulting another man in a robbery during a drug deal was sentenced Monday, July 10, to five years in prison.

Judge Jeannine Pratt told Cale Pence, 20, he was "incredibly lucky" the victim didn't die from a head injury sustained in the March 29 incident in a parking lot off Imperial Court in Troy. Police said a Troy man suffered a head injury during the attempt to steal drugs and was taken by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.

Pence initially was charged with felony aggravated robbery. He later pleaded guilty to felony robbery in Miami County Common Pleas Court. He declined comment before the sentencing.

Pratt said Pence had several convictions as a juvenile and was convicted previously of disorderly conduct and unauthorized use of property as an adult.
