Winkler said he thought, “My kids live there.”

“Right now I’m in total shock,” he told this news outlet this morning. He said his three children between the ages of 5 and 10 live with their mother at the home in Franklin.

Winkler said he believes the two men involved in the stabbing may have been his wife’s former boyfriends.

Amber Salmons, who lives next door to where the stabbing took place, said the two men got into a fight Sunday afternoon in front of her house.

She thought the two men had been separated and the fight had ended, but several hours later, she heard about the stabbing and saw the Franklin police officers in front of her house.

“I never thought that this would happen,” Salmons said. “It’s just two bulldogs, I thought.”

When asked how she felt, she said “disbelief.”

Salmons said she was caring for the five children who were living in the house where the stabbing took place. She said the children did not go to school today.
