UPDATE @ 5 p.m. (April 1): Homicide suspect Jerry Ramey Jr., 42, has been indicted, Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.'s office announced today.

A county grand jury accuses Ramey of murder, aggravated burglary and felonious assault in the killing of Earl Davis Jr., 45, in a home on Strand Avenue on March 21.

Dayton police Lt. Mark Ponichtera has said an anonymous call to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch was made about 9:25 p.m. the day Davis died and the message was that somebody had been killed inside the home. Police arrived and looked through a window to see that someone was down on the floor.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s office determined that the cause of Davis’ death was strangulation. Ramey was arrested a day later at a business on North Main Street — again based on an anonymous tip called to police — and detained pending the filing of formal charges.

He remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is to be arraigned April 5.
