Suspect released from jail for fatal Miami Twp. shooting

UPDATE @ 12:02 p.m. (July 25):

The suspect who was detained following a fatal shooting at the Hawthorn Suites hotel on Sunday morning has been released from jail pending further investigation and the collection of additional information, according to the Miami Twp. Police Department.

No charges were approved when prosecutors reviewed the case Monday, however the case will be reviewed again next month, police said.

A semiautomatic pistol, a rifle scope and hypodermic needles were among items police found at Miami Twp. hotel where a Fairborn woman was fatally shot this weekend.

Police records show a round of live ammunition and a spent gun shell were discovered along with five needles, a firearm and the weapon accessory after officers responded early Sunday morning to the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, where Lynsie Davis was shot before she was pronounce dead a local hospital.

Three witnesses are also listed on a report released today about the shooting, for which a 35-year-old Beavercreek man is being held in the Montgomery County Jail. Mathew P. Glass was booked Sunday morning on suspicion of reckless homicide.

Det. Paul Nienhaus said this morning he plans to meet with prosecutors today about charges against Glass in the death of Davis.

“When it involves a death it usually involves at least three prosecutors to get together and present the case to see if there will be charges,” he said.

Police were called about the shooting shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. 911 told dispatchers a man was showing a gun to a woman when it went off inside the hotel room.

“A friend was showing it to her ... I don’t know what happened ... it was an accident,” she said.

While the woman who called 911 referred to Davis and Glass as friends, they did “not really” know each other well, Nienhaus said.

Davis was taken to Kettering Medical Center, where she was pronounced.

Police will talk with prosecutors today about charges involving a 35-year-old Beavercreek suspect in a fatal weekend shooting at a Miami Twp. hotel.

Records show Mathew P. Glass remains in jail this morning awaiting possible reckless homicide charges for the early Sunday morning shooting that killed Lynsie Davis of Fairborn at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham near the Dayton Mall.

A 32-year-old Fairborn was shot to death early Sunday at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham near the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp. The same hotel was the scene of a shots-fired incident in January involving police.

A 911 caller issued an urgent plea for early Sunday help after she said a woman was accidentally shot inside a hotel room at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham.

Police and medics were called at 12:50 a.m. to the hotel, 155 Prestige Place, Miami Twp. police said.

The victim was identified as Lynsie Davis by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. She was taken to Kettering Medical Center, where she died.

Mathew P. Glass was arrested at the Miami Twp. police station and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of reckless homicide. He is awaiting formal charges, according to online jail records.

A woman who called 911 told dispatchers a man was showing a gun to a woman when it went off inside the hotel room.

“A friend was showing it to her ... I don’t know what happened ... it was an accident,” she said.

The caller said she did not know the man or the woman, only that her name was Lynsie. She also was unable to tell emergency dispatchers where on her body the woman was shot nor whether she was breathing.

“I ran outside as soon as it happened,” she said.

The coroner's office performed an autopsy Sunday morning but said they could not release any further information about Davis' death.

When contacted, hotel staff said they had no comment.

Earlier incident

On Jan. 26, men were arrested at the same hotel after an investigation by police that ended with officers shooting at the suspects, who allegedly tried to hit the police with their vehicle.

Those arrested were Shaun Hill, 27; Richard Benton, 28; Antwaun Brown, 31, and Darion Stargell, 27, according to jail records. Brown was the driver and he was faces a charge of felonious assault on a police officer.

Hill and Benton were each indicted on a single count of obstructing official business, and Stargell was indicted on a charge of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. A grand jury in March declined charges against three R.A.N.G.E. Task Force officers involved in this January shooting.
