Victim identified in Hamilton homicide

UPDATE @ 1:45 p.m.: Hamilton police have confirmed they are investigating a homicide that happened last night on Chestnut Street.

Jaylen A. Kinney of Trotwood was shot and transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital in a private vehicle where he died of his injuries, according to police. Thursday was his 24th birthday.

Kinney died of a gunshot wound, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

Shot were reportedly fired in the area at 11:13 p.m.

INITIAL REPORT:

The Hamilton Police Department has confirmed shots were fired last night in the city, but as of 12:30 p.m. had not released any information, despite repeated requests by this news outlet.

The Hamilton fire department reported hearing shots fired at 11:13 p.m. Thursday in the area of Chestnut Street, according to dispatchers.

Sgt. Brian Robinson confirmed to the Journal-News there was a shooting last night. He declined to provide more details.

A man was brought to the coroner’s office last night from Hamilton, according to Martin Schneider, administrator of the coroner’s office.

Officer Kristy Collins told this news outlet she is working to release more information.
