Man charged with killing wife booked into Middletown jail

Bobby Jo Nitz, the Middletown man charged with murder for allegedly shooting his wife to death Sunday night at their Short Street home, is in the city jail awaiting arraignment.

Middletown police were called to the couple’s home after being alerted by Crista Nitz’s 11-year-old daughter crying saying that her mother was dead.

Crista, 41, was found dead in the bathroom, suffering from a gunshot wound from the head, according to Middletown police.

After the shooting, Nitz, 45, fled on his motorcycle and was located by officers in Meigs County, Ohio, about 160 miles, or three hours, from Middletown. There was a chase and Nitz was taken into custody, police said. He was booked into the Middletown Jail at 10:50 p.m. Monday

When arrested, Nitz had was in possession of a gun, but police said they do not know if it was the weapon used to kill Crista.

Nitz is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge of murder Wednesday morning in Middletown Municipal Court.

Bobby and Crista Nitz had been married for seven months on Sunday, and a domestic incident at their home on Short Street “came out of the blue,” according to Middletown police.

The girl is in the care of her biological father, police said.
