Man sentenced for seeking sex from developmentally disabled Piqua teen

TROY — An Anna man convicted of soliciting a developmentally disabled teen for sexual activity last summer in Piqua was sentenced Monday to two years in prison.

William L. Myers, 73, of rural Anna was charged by Piqua police after the 17-year-old male told police he was in a downtown Piqua when a man repeatedly asked him to get into his van. After he complied, the man drove to the Forest Hill Cemetery, where he offered to pay money to perform a sex act, police said. The teen said he refused.

Myers later pleaded guilty to felony solicitation.

“It should never have happened,” Myers told Judge Jeannine Pratt in Miami County Common Pleas Court on Monday. “I was stressed out … That is not an excuse. I am sorry for what I did.”

Pratt reviewed Myers’ criminal record that included drug and theft offenses. She said she found he showed no genuine remorse for the crime.

“The court is concerned that you were preying on this young man and his disability. You took advantage of him,” Pratt said. “It is the court’s obligation to make sure it doesn’t happen.”

Myers was given credit for four days served in the county jail. He will be ordered to pay court costs and his driver’s license will be suspended for one year following prison release.
