Man waving gun arrested outside Vandalia hotel

Vandalia police said one man was arrested following a report of an armed man outside a hotel.

Officers were dispatched to the Travelodge at 7575 Poe Avenue around 3 a.m. on reports of a man with a gun outside the hotel.

Police said the first officer to respond found the man holding a handgun, prompting the officer to draw his weapon. The man surrendered and was taken into custody.

Investigators said the gun had no bullets in it, and the man was not attempting to rob the business.

Police said the man and a second person with him were intoxicated and attempting to meet up with someone at the hotel. The second man was not charged and was allowed to leave the scene.

The arrested man also had a felony warrant for his arrest, and was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
