Middletown man overdoses, asks to get out of ambulance

A Middletown man asked to be let out of an ambulance on the way to the hospital and minutes after he was revived by Narcan, according to the police reports.

Middletown police officers responded to an apartment in the 1500 block of Manchester Avenue last week on a report that a man was down. They were told by a female resident that she heard what she thought was a man snoring in the laundry room.

She found the man, later identified as Robert Kelly, unconscious. She poured water on Kelly, but he didn’t wake up, she told police.

Kelly was given three doses of Narcan after paramedics believed he had snorted heroin since they couldn’t find any drug paraphernalia or track marks.

Kelly was charged with heroin intoxication and a squad started to transport him to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown.

But en route, he told paramedics he didn’t want to go to the hospital, so he was let out at Woodlawn Avenue and University Boulevard.
