Middletown man shot this morning in critical condition

A 22-year-old Middletown man is in critical condition following an early-morning shooting in the city, police said.

Officers found Thomas Wilkerson had been shot twice and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Around 2:30 a.m. today, the Middletown Division of Police received calls of gunshots from several locations, specifically the 1800 block of North Street, Shafor Street, Richardson Street, and 8th Avenue, police said. The State Highway Patrol and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office were called to give mutual aid due to the number of locations, police said.

It was later determined that no shots were fired on Shafor or Richardson, but rather the callers had heard the shots from North Avenue and thought they had come from Shafor and Richardson, police said.

Officers also found a home at the 800 block of 9th Avenue had been struck by bullets. It is not yet known if the two incidents are related; however, this call came in at 2:48 a.m., police said.

Middletown has experienced a number of firearm-related incidents in the past few weeks, police said. At least some of them appear to be related, they said. The investigations into these are ongoing.

Anyone with information about these shootings is asked to call Lt. James Cunningham at 513-425-7737.
