An off-duty officer came to rescue of a family being shot at while driving in Huber Heights.

Douglas Motter, 42, is in Montgomery County Jail on five counts of felonious assault in connection to this incident.

The road rage incident happened Sunday afternoon in the area of Brandt Pike and Kitridge Road, said Sgt. Charles Taylor of Huber Heights police.

Motter allegedly was upset that a motorist was swerving in and out of lanes, and reportedly started firing gunshots at the vehicle.

The alleged victim’s vehicle was driven by an adult male and also inside were three children, ranging in age from three years to 16 years, Taylor said.

The vehicle was hit by bullets but no one was injured. The two vehicles both stopped and started a verbal argument, according to Taylor.

That’s when an off-duty cop from Dayton police spotted the gunfire and fight and pulled over. That officer got Motter into handcuffs before Huber Heights police arrived on scene.
