Patrol seizes $1M in meth in Preble Co. traffic stop

Two Californians are facing charges after the Ohio Highway Patrol found 27 pounds of methamphetamine during a recent traffic stop in Preble County.

The driver, Fidel Rodriguez Gomez, 26, of Gridley, Calif., and passenger, Bridget J. Morales, 28, of Yuba City, Calif., are being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of possession of meth and criminal tools.

The pair was stopped shortly after midnight Dec. 2 as they were traveling in a 2010 Chevy Aveo on I-70, according to a release from OHP. The reason for the stop was for a no turn signal violation, according to the patrol.

The vehicle was searched and 27 pounds of meth was seized, an estimated street value of $1 million, according to the patrol.

If convicted, Gomez and Morales could each face up to 11 years in prison and up to a $22,500 fine.
