Police blotter

ENGLEWOOD (JAN. 25) – Witnesses told police they saw a man pick up a rock and throw it through a window of a parked van. Police were questioning the man when the vehicle owner showed up and the man apologized. When the owner said she wanted him charged, the man started cursing the woman and calling her names. He was charged criminal damaging and disorderly conduct, and jailed.

PIQUA (FEB. 10) – A man called police around 1:30 a.m. to complain about a woman following him around inside his house calling him names. The man was advised police could not make the woman, who also lived there, leave. It was suggested the man go elsewhere to get some sleep and then work to have the female evicted. Police had been called to the home earlier in the evening on a verbal dispute between the man and woman, who police said was intoxicated.

FLETCHER (FEB. 7) – The owner of a rental property told Miami County sheriff’s deputies he went to the house after evicting a tenant to find several items stolen including cabinets, shed doors and a sink. Drywall also was damaged.

BRADFORD (FEB. 7) – A school resource officer at Bradford High School reported he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a student’s clothing. The student was taken to the principal’s office, where he allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana before school, according to the officer from the Miami County sheriff’s department.

VANDALIA (FEB. 2) – A woman on Stonequarry Road told police her vehicle was taken without her permission after her son, saying he was homeless, told her he needed someplace warm to go. The woman said she picked up the son and brought him to her home, where she left the car running in the driveway for the son to stay for awhile to get warm. The son then was supposed to get out of the car after getting warm and leave, police said. The woman said she later looked out the window and the car was gone. It was traced via an in-vehicle system to Butler Twp. Police found the car, abandoned at an intersection and the son walking a quarter mile away. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
