State patrol to head up special focus on drivers in Greene County

Targeting aggressive, reckless and distracted drivers in Greene County is the focus of a concentrated law enforcement effort this month.

Troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol will be joining Greene County sheriff's deputies and police from Beavercreek, Fairborn and Centerville on the lookout for reckless, intimidating, aggressive and distracted driving behaviors.

The special patrol is called Operation T.R.I.A.D.D. It was implemented on Feb. 1 to deter aggressive and dangerous driving in Ohio through collaborated target enforcement and public awareness to reduce traffic fatalities and encourage a safe driving environment.

Incidents of highway crashes involving reckless, intimidating and aggressive driving behaviors have become a nationwide epidemic, state patrol officials said in a prepared statement released Friday.

  • According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, aggressive driving accounts for more than half of all traffic fatalities. Traffic deaths rose 13 percent during 2015 and 2016 combined.
  • According to the 2015 NHTSA Motor Vehicle Crash Overview, fatal crashes related to distracted driving have increased from 3,197 to 3,477 (280), or 8.8 percent.
  • Operation T.R.I.A.D.D. is to occur Feb. 21 through Feb. 24.
