STOP inmate who runs from Dayton work detail indicted

A 22-year-old jail inmate accused of running from a work detail has now been indicted on an escape charge.

Dustin Scott Cochran is ordered to appear Nov. 8 for arraignment, according to the Montgomery County grand jury report released Tuesday.

Cochran, who is not in county custody, is accused of fleeing a work detail Aug. 2 at Greencastle Cemetery on Nicholas Road in Dayton. The work detail was part of the Secure Transitional Offender Program (STOP), according to the indictment.

Police are searching for Dustin Cochran, 21, who ran from a work detail at Greencastle Cemetery as part of the STOP program, which helps people put on probation for drug or alcohol offenses instead of being housed in the Montgomery County Jail.

Cochran has a warrant for a probation violation that has already been issued, according to officials.

Cochran ditched his orange uniform while fleeing from the cemetery, officials said.

His last known address was on Stapleton Court in Dayton.

Police in Dayton are looking for a man who ran away from a work detail as part of a county drug and alcohol intervention program.

The man ran away Tuesday morning from the Secure Transitional Offender Program, which helps people put on probation for drug or alcohol offenses instead of being housed in the Montgomery County Jail.

The man, who was wearing an orange jumpsuit, ran while working at a cemetery in the 2000 block of Nicholas Road, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

Officers were searching areas along Danner and Richley avenues as well as Miami Chapel Road.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the man had not been located.
