Woman who phoned bomb threat to Kenton Ridge sentenced to probation

A woman accused of calling in a bomb threat to Kenton Ridge High School from Wisconsin in December was sentenced last week for the crime.

Meridith Rowland, 37, was arrested by local police in Wisconsin during what authorities described as a 40-minute long conversation with the school’s principal during which she allegedly said she had desires to plant a bomb in the building and planned to “kill everyone.”

She was extradited to Clark County where she faced a felony charge of inducing panic.

Rowland pleaded guilty to the charge in May and was sentenced to two years community control, otherwise known as probation. She was also fined $1,458.

A police affidavit alleges Rowland told the threats to a school official.

“During this time she also stated she wanted to put a bomb in the school and towards the end of the conversation she advised she would kill everyone there,” Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigator Mark Lane wrote in an affidavit.

Students, teachers and staff were ordered to shelter in place during the conversation, the affidavit states. Authorities and school officials said there was no indication anyone was in danger.

Northeastern Superintendent John Kronour said at the time it was the third time the school was ordered to shelter in place due to an incident. Rowland was identified as a 1998 graduate of Kenton Ridge in the affidavit.
